Stoplog gates are vital structures lowered into guide slots by gantry cranes to isolate water flow during maintenance and emergencies. In this process, where you cannot see what is happening underwater, the biggest risk is the gate jamming, twisting, or sitting on a foreign object (rock, tree trunk, debris) at the bottom. If the crane continues to apply force, rope breakages or catastrophic structural failures become inevitable.
